Four Things Rick Santorum Could Say About Last Night's Debate

1) "I told the truth.  The truth is complicated.  Unlike most politicians, I believe that the American people are smart enough to understand the truth without excessive or simplistic rhetoric."

2) "I told the truth.  I was honest about my reasons for doing things—some were good, some were bad; and I was honest about that too.  If the mistakes that I've made make you uncomfortable voting for me, you should look at the mistakes my opponents have made."

3) "I told the truth.  I didn't finesse it, or downplay it, or exaggerate it.  Some people are saying that lost me the debate—because I explained too many things, at too great a length; because I wasn't just all good lines, like the other candidates.  But I'd rather lose being who I am than win being someone who I'm not."

4) "I told the truth.  Yikes! what a mistake.  I promise, sincerely, with my hands on my heart, ladies and gentlemen, never ever to do that again."
